Test User Occupational Personality (TUOP) (Formerly Level B Certificate of Competence in Occupational Testing)
Aims and objectives
‘Test User Occupational Personality’ is a BPS-verified course qualifying you in personality theory, assessment and interpretation. Successful completion allows you to purchase and practise in the NEO PI-3 and all NEO materials. The NEO is rapidly becoming the preferred personality tool for middle to senior level recruitment and personal development in the UK. Delegates become practitioners through the process of learning the background and theory of the NEO family of Personality Inventories.
Course Content
The course introduces personality theory and associated assessment methods. Delegates are trained in how to select, apply and feedback personality measures, specialising in the NEO personality measure (see below). The content covers many aspects of personality theory from personality assessment through to test administration. Delegates work through case studies, worksheets, exercises, self-assessments, post course assignments and practical work by administering, scoring and providing feedback (written and oral).
About the NEO Personality Inventory
The NEO PI-3 is the latest version of the internationally recognised ‘gold standard’ instrument with which to measure personality. It can be used across a broad range of occupations and is often most suited for middle to senior management assessments. It provides a comprehensive description of temperament and behavioural style, invaluable for informed selection, internal promotion and individual development decisions.
The NEO PI-3 is a detailed measure of business related personality traits describing personality across five broad domains and thirty underlying facets. The 240-item questionnaire is available in an online format, where users can access the results as an automatically-produced, detailed narrative report. A paper and pencil version of the NEO PI-3 is available.
The high level of granularity gained from the questionnaire provides an excellent platform for substantial investigation into an individual’s behavioural style and temperament. The five broad domains measured are Extraversion; Negative Emotion; Openness to Experience; Agreeableness and Conscientiousness. The five-factor model delivers informed data applicable to working style, leadership style, team style, training needs, conflict resolution, decision-making style and stress management.

However, RFL’s ‘Test User Occupational Personality’ course includes the required modules undertaken at ‘Assistant Occupational Test User’, thereby enabling delegates to be eligible to automatically qualify as a Registered Test User upon completion of the course.
Course Assessment
In order to be eligible to qualify as a Registered Test User, delegates must complete written and practical coursework. Practical coursework is set throughout, along with a post-course assignment.
On completion of the course delegates complete a registration form (provided by RFL). Once this form is received by Hogrefe, who publish the NEO PI-3, delegates are eligible to purchase all NEO materials.
Qualification achieved
Successful trainees gain the British Psychological Society (BPS) regulated ‘Test User Occupational Personality’ (TUOP) qualification. Delegates will be eligible for membership of the BPS Register of Qualifications in Test Use (RQTU), as a Registered Test User.
